VICTORINO MAPA, the second Filipino chief justice of the Supreme Court, was born in Kalibo, then a town in Capiz, on 25 February 1852. He had served as Register of Deeds of Iloilo and later as Vice Mayor of Iloilo.

CASTLE Brothers, Wolf and Sons is an American trading company with offices in Manila and Iloilo during the 1900s. Its Iloilo building (see photo above) was located along De la Rama Street near the Iloilo port. It figured in a lawsuit in 1912.

HOUSE SPEAKER Prospero Nograles, representative of the first district of Davao City, is part Ilonggo. His father, Enrico Teruel Nograles, was from Tigbauan, Iloilo while his mother, Vicenta Castillo, was from Batangas.
FELIPE LANDA JOCANO, the first Filipino Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology, was born on February 5, 1930 in Cabatuan, Iloilo. The youngest son of Eusebio Jocano and Anastascia Landa of Barangay Salacay, he is currently Professor Emeritus at the Asian Center of the University of the Philippines and Executive Director of Punlad Research House, Inc.
