Virginia Palanca-Santiago’s exercise of raw power (18)

Virginia Palanca-Santiago’s unusual haste to “solve” the case People’s Graftwatch of Iloilo versus jaime Esmeralda, et al, invites suspicion. Even while the answer of Esmeralda et al were in transitu to Cebu, they already received a six-month preventive suspension order dated March 14, 2005.
It was signed by then Ombudsman for the Visayas Primo Miro but [...]

Virginia Palanca-Santiago exercise of raw power (17)

Virginia Palanca-Santiago, the woman who should be addressed to as “Honorable” being the assistant ombudsman for the Visayas and concurrently, regional director of the Office of the Ombudsman in Western Visayas, scarcely shows her face in Iloilo these days.
Further, her office no longer accepts my pleadings; her subordinates told me to mail them directly to [...]

Traffic mismanagement, again

Leganes poblacion, particularly, the national road leading to its church, as expected, ground to a halt on March 5, its town fiesta; heavy volumes of vehicles and pilgrims flocked there to venerate the patron San Vicente Ferrer reputed to shower blessings, miracles even, on devotees.
Traffic may be heavy but not a single instance have we [...]

Our neighbor Gerry Escatron nearly lost his life due to the man who sports the title “doctor”.

A friend Peter J was apprehended by a traffic police and slapped a P200-fine, which he paid, for a strange violation called “disregarding”. He was not even driving at that time. That happened to columnist and TV talk show host, Peter Jimenea.
He asked his son, Ace, to take his motorcycle for emission test last February 22. On the way home, the young Jimenea was flagged down by a team of [...]

The culture of impunity persists notwithstanding domestic and international condemnation: state [...]

Virginia Palanca-Santiago’s exercise of raw power (15)

We can understand Manuel “Boy” Mejorada’s ranting on the cavalier treatment of his graft suit against TESDA director-general Augusto Syjuco by the regional office of the Ombudsman based in Iloilo City.
Mejorada, Iloilo provincial administrator, slapped graft charges against Syjuco since 2003 yet. Among the celebrated cases he filed was the so-called heavy equipment scam.
Panay News, [...]

PBO again

A ship captain lost his life from head injuries when his motorcycle early morning of January 13 tripped over an open gutter of the road in Molo, Iloilo City. Such waste of life could have been avoided had there been warning signs for motorists to slow down or detour. The unfinished gutter was only “marked” [...]

Arroyo can’t escape liability

As of this writing, the death toll in the carnage at Brgy. Salman. Ampatuan, Maguindanao has risen to 64. All are civilians and precious lives wasted in the bloodbath unleashed by a Malacanang-sponsored warlord.
