LTO chief must resign
Posted on August 23rd, 2008MOTORCYCLE riders should not blame Land Transportation Office–6 director Gerard Camiña for the implementation of LTO’s administrative Order (AO) No. 2008-15 prescribing the rules and regulations for the use and operation of motorcycles on highways.
In Section 1, paragraph “g” of AO 2008-5, it clearly states that all motorcycle riders are required to wear protective devices such as leather gloves, heavy jackets and leather boots.
Whew! Pwerte ka init eh!
Blame it all to LTO chief Alberto Suanzing!

This writer is also a motorcycle owner. Since gasoline price increases are unstoppable, I opted to use my motorcycle or take a public utility jeepney. I no longer use my vintage car (model 1300 Beetle Volkswagen).
My beetle consumes 1 liter of premium gasoline for every 10-12 kilometers.
But we are in hard times now.
So, with AO 2008-15 Section 6, which states that only one backrider shall be allowed, my kumpare Roming, who uses his motorcycle in going to work and carrying his children to school has expressed disgust.
Pare Roming bought a motorcycle to save on jeepney fares.
Motorcycle owners are also against the P1,500 fine for not wearing standard helmet.
By the way, LTO should also impose penalties/fines on motorcycle riding traffic enforcers without helmet.
Unaha anay ang mga haslu!

Many objections have been raised against AO 2008-015, which prohibits modification of the motorcycle’s original design without the approval of LTO and DTI.
If that is the case, LTO must not register modified public utility vehicles and ‘lowered jeeps’.
Why does the LTO allow tricycles and habal-habal in rural areas?
Is LTO chief Alberto Suanzing not considering the livelihood of the thousands of tricycle and habal-habal drivers nga magutuman?
LTO must instead campaign strictly against rampant registration of smuggled vehicles coming from the North, the Visayas and the Mindanao port.

Last week House Speaker Prospero Nograles asked for the ouster of Suanzing after the latter issued a statement that he will recall all the car plates bearing “8” for these have been used to commit abuses.
Congress also criticized the statement made by Suanzing implying that congressmen are abusive on the roads.
But Nograles said the “8” car plate is the official protocol plate issued by the transport agency to members of the House of Representatives.
He added that if Suanzing cannot do his job effectively by using his common sense, he must resign from his position.
