Marañon-Zayco tandem? Not yet final
Posted on June 25th, 2009
BACOLOD CITY — Gov. Isidro Zayco is right. The Freddie Marañon – Bebing Zayco team for the 2010 gubernatorial and vice-gobernatorial slate is not final yet.
We can never have a final team until the certificates of candidacy are filed. All speculations.
Although I have the feeling the party leaders of both United Negros Alliance and the Nationalist People’s Coalition have their initial decision. Let us not make the Governor a lame duck.
Gov. Zayco is a very good party man. He will subordinate his personal interest to the interest of the Party. That is why he is very well loved.

When Sen. Manny Villar was here Monday he told DAILY STAR his Nacionalista Party will field a candidate for Governor. This is good news. It will help his candidacy.
Villar spoke but I did not get the whole speech because we were busy talking with friends. All that I could get was his own struggles early in life.
I feel though Senator Villar must work harder in Negros and Panay because while he claimed his father and grandmother on his mother side came from Iloilo, Roxas is a native of Capiz and with roots in Negros.
And Roxas has long been tightening his grip in West Visayas.
I always remember what Sen. Ping Lacson would always say, “Bilog ang mundo.” Or the world is round. In every contest it is always everybody’s game.

So election fever is getting higher and higher in scale. Especially with the presidency. Mar Roxas, Ping Lacson, Dick Gordon, Loren Legarda, and Chiz Escudero have all visited Sunshine Channel. We have not been visited yet by Manny Villar and Gilbert Teodoro. Villar is a front runner in the survey. But personally I don’t believe in surveys, especially when election is nearly a year away. One good thing is he is an indefatigable campaigner.
Loren Legarda is there way down below. But don’t underestimate her.

In Bacolod election fever is getting hotter and hotter everyday.
In other cities and municipalities, it also is but are far from media outlets to fuel the discussions.
The mayorship used to be battle royale between Bing and Monico. But it became more interesting with the entry of Vladimir Gonzalez.
What makes the election campaign in Bacolod more interesting are the political barkers. Without them election would be dull.
The other night, our Ernie Hinojas interviewed Monico at Sunshine where Monico showed his fighting spirit to capture the maryorship.
Ernie must interview Bing and Vladimir, too. And all who think of running for mayor. It is the work of our Sunshine Manager Amado Villacarlos to get all the candidates for mayor and of Congress to discuss the issues.
Bring to the public the issues so that they can have a better evaluation of whom we have to vote. Let there be more discussion of issues.

Must the president resign if she chooses to run for Congress?
It is believed she must. The only people exempted here are the Senators and Congressmen, which is unfair but what can you do they make the law.
They must not be exempted. They give us more reasons to abolish Congress. That was one of the reasons why Marcos declared Martial Law, the abuse of Congressmen. Read his book “Resolution: Democracy.”
Note: I apologize to Board Member Nehemias “Nene” de la Cruz. He is for GMO ban. The Nene de la Cruz I wrote about is actually Nemesio “Neme” de la Cruz of Victorias. Nene is not Neme. And Neme is not Nene.
Nene told me his wife Cynthia scolded him for his stand because they promote organic farming. “I would rather disagree with anyone but not my wife,” Nene said.
Good husband and father to Salvador Benedicto Mayor Marxlen de la Cruz
