Walang hiyang driver
Posted on March 25th, 2008THE TAXI DRIVER who charged Eleonor, associate editor of FILES Magazine, P350 for a trip from the New Iloilo Airport to their home in Ungka early evening of last Saturday should be taught a lesson. Why?
There is a regulation which mandates that taxicabs may only charge on their fare meter, that’s why. Asking the passengers a charter fare, therefore, is illegal.
The taxi driver also did something inhuman to her. “Kay ‘la ko nagsugot, gin-ulâ ‘ya ko sa dark secluded highway,” she said. Eleu was saying that because she did not agree, the driver dropped her off in a dark secluded highway.
The poor girl, who is seven months pregnant, had to walk the remaining distance to their home from the highway.
Eleonor was in the airport to see Glenn, her husband, off for Manila where he works and was here only for a short Holy Week vacation.
On board the taxi, she noticed that the driver did not push on the fare meter. The driver said he was charging her P350 for that trip to home in Pavia. She was shocked, especially knowing that such a trip would only cost her less than P200. And so she complained.
We understand that Eleu has already submitted the body number and name of this taxi to the Land Transportation Office. It was a Forbes taxi with body number 2046.
We expect some real action on this complaint, Sir Gerard of the Land Transportation Office (LTO)! Also Sir Perry of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)!

I think church people should be more serious in preaching the word of God on the sanctity of matrimony.
Premarital sex and live-in relationships are simply eroding the marital morality to an already alarming proportion.
Also, they are not only the problem of the religious communities. These relationships have also become the problem of the State.
Many of the children of these relationships have produced single mothers, street children and even youth criminals.
The State, in its role as “mother”, has to spend millions to help these single mothers, care for the street children and attend to the rehabilitation of youth criminals, as they pose as a major problem to the decent and peaceful living of their communities.

Re: Taxi drivers…
these group of drivers are really becoming a tribe in the city. Hope Eleu is not backing out ever. The taxi operators should also be given aproper discipline regarding this by the authorities for employing such rascals who do not have a humane consideration for ‘pregnant women’ at least, if nor for ladies.
