What’s wrong with Jerry?

Posted on July 18th, 2008

MAYOR Jerry Treñas was so proud of his posters and slogan Bangon Iloilo, Masarangan Naton Ini displayed in subway of the city. I find no fault in this, except, that it suddenly appears two or three days after we are devastated by typhoon Frank.

How can the typhoon victims take it to the heart when Jerry is the only person that can benefit from what he said? Frank’s victims from Jaro and Mandurriao districts lost almost everything they have after the flash flood and they are yet to regain consciousness.

So how could such statement be helpful when they have to start anew with so little left at hand? Mayor Jerry should know that it is only for him and his mindless stooge that this photo-ops was good!

Had it not for the immediate action of the DOJ Secretary Raul M. Gonzalez, Sr., his congressman son, government officials concerned and civilian-volunteers, Jaro today would still be in mourning idcirco – on that account!

When interviewed over the radio, Jerry spoke as if an eyewitness of the typhoon that happened. If his disclosures lasted for about fifteen minutes more, this writer fears that truth would be among the eventual casualty not of Frank but of Jerry.

Typhoon Frank has opened our eyes to the truth about the situation of Iloilo - a highly urbanized and civilized city where barbarians cut the living trees along the highway and replaced them with lighted-bulbs powered by electricity.

Whoever planned that beautification program must have less-working brains. They could have trimmed down only the branches to preserve oxygen, not to destroy the trees which can absorb the carbon dioxide emitted by passing motor vehicles.

What’s more, Iloilo City is still unprepared to face the calamity like the one brought about by typhoon Frank. This highly urbanized city has no heavy equipments or even a dump truck of its own just in case of another typhoon as expected.

The provincial government is fortunate to have heavy equipments that has helped a lot to rescue the city residents stranded during the flash-flood. This is pride of the province despite being ruled by the most reckless emperor the kingdom by the River ever had.

Perhaps, Jerry has that Midas touch in reverse – all he touches turned not into gold but smacks for his administration. The scornful Pavia Housing scam under his stewardship is still a nightmare.

The transfer of Pavia Housing loan from the PNB to the Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) is also of suspicious circumstances. As after which, we began paying seventeen thousand pesos interest per day including Saturdays and Sundays, but cui bono – for what good and for whose benefit? The answer is yours!

Despite the work slippage and suspension of the project caused by the media discovery of substandard materials, Jerry still paid the fourth Billing of the contractor amounting over four million pesos!

Again, Jerry and his underlings treated us with the most despised ordinance the city government has ever had – the Perimeter Boundary Ordinance. It only distorted the existing peace between the transport groups and commuters of both the city and the province.

The ordinance incurs additional fare hikes to provincial commuters and farm producers. Jerry disagreed with the color coding method which is for the good of all as according to him, it deprives the rich city residents the use of their own luxurious vehicles.

The equal application of law was ignored by Jerry and company. This creates a suspicion without affirming the perception that the foolish judgment in favor of the rich is inspired by amor nummi – love of money!

Lowly City Hall employees are most sorely tempted to steal but don’t. The mounting public discernment over the bad effects of the PBO, eventually tells that fraud a la loi – a fraud upon that law is committed. This is what the earlier claims hinted at!

The law is established for the benefit of all, not for the interest of the few. Jerry should know that their deliberate injustice to the poor people is a crime that cries to God for vengeance. Heaven knows, rei turpis nullium mandatum est – the mandate of an immoral thing is void!
